Kevin O'Brien departs as Westmeath hurling manager

Eddie Brennan was recently announced as a coach in the set-up.

KEVIN O’BRIEN’S time as Westmeath’s senior hurling manager is over, the county board have confirmed.

Eddie Brennan, the decorated former Kilkenny hurler, was last month announced as a coach on O’Brien’s backroom team for the 2027 campaign.

Former Clare hurler, Ollie Baker, was part of O’Brien’s backroom team in 2026.

O’Brien took on the job a year ago. He previously managed Westmeaths U20s and led his native Clonkill to county SHC titles in 2018 and 2019.

Westmeath finished fifth out of six teams in the 2026 Joe McDonagh Cup, with just one win from five games.

A statement from Westmeath GAA read: “Westmeath GAA confirms that Kevin O’Brien’s tenure as senior hurling manager has come to a close.

“We thank Kevin for his commitment and contribution to Westmeath hurling and the senior hurling team in 2026 and wish him every success in the future.

“Westmeath GAA will now commence the search for a new senior hurling manager for 2027.”
