IRELAND CAPTAIN KATIE McCabe has been shortlisted for the Fifpro Women’s World 11, an award for the best players from the previous season around the world.
After votes from over 6,500 fellow players were counted, McCabe was included as a defender in the shortlist, with the final team to be named at 2pm on Monday, 9 November.
This is McCabe’s first nomination for the Fifpro World 11, having previously been shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or, as well as winning Arsenal’s player of the year on two occasions before her move across London.

Also included in the shortlist is Alexia Putellas of London City Lionesses, who won her third Ballon d’Or last week.
Places on the World 11 are given based on the highest votes received, with a goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders and three attackers selected for the team. The remaining outfield player with the highest vote count is then chosen to take the final place.
Meanwhile, Denise O’Sullivan lifted the NWSL Shield with Gotham FC after a 2-0 win over Utah Royals FC. It was the New York-based team’s first ever regular season title, despite having won the NWSL twice.
The Ireland centurion has played 11 times since joining the reigning NWSL champions in July on loan from Liverpool.
Gotham will now enjoy home advantage in the play-offs, kicking off with a quarter-final this Sunday, 8 November, against Seattle Reign FC.
