Unsurprisingly, Cork lead the way with 14 All-Star nominations after winning their third All-Ireland in four years. The champions also dominate the Player of the Year selection with Laura Hayes and Sorcha McCartan battling for the award alongside Galway’s Carrie Dolan.

Cork’s superiority in 2026 is all the more impressive considering the challenges they faced at the outset of the season. After seeing their All-Ireland three-in-a-row hopes dashed by a late Carrie Dolan free, they lost some of their key players, including Pamela and Katrina Mackey, while Hannah Looney has joined the AFLW exodus.

But Ger Manley’s side navigated that transitional period to reach their sixth consecutive All-Ireland final, and take the majority of the All-Star nominations.

McCartan is likely to be the favourite for the Player of the Year award after another standout season since her transfer from Down to Cork. Interestingly, this is just her first All-Star nomination since joining the Leeside outfit in 2022, and she is also in line to pick up the top individual honour.

Her performance in the All-Ireland final certainly makes her a favourite for the Player of the Year award. She bagged four points from play against Galway with a brace of points in either half, while also providing the decisive flick to set up Órlaith Cahalane for Cork’s second goal. McCartan’s contribution saw her pick up the Player of the Match award at the banquet.

But don’t disregard Cork stalwart Laura Hayes, who was the Player of the Year two years ago, and was a towering presence at midfield this year.

Dolan is unlikely to get the nod but is an obvious recommendation. When her side was trailing 2-11 to 0-12 in the second half of the All-Ireland final, Dolan played a key role in their revival which came up short by just one point. The Galway captain is one of 10 All-Star nominations for the defeated All-Ireland finalists.
