BARRY COTTER HAS joined Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia from Derry City for an undisclosed fee.
Cotter, 27, joined Derry in January after a three-year spell at Barnsley. He played 30 times for the Candystripes, scoring two goals, having previously represented Shamrock Rovers, St Patrick’s Athletic and Limerick FC in the League of Ireland.
The Clare right-back now leaves for Derry’s Europa League conquerors: Cotter played every minute of the July double-header, which CSKA Sofia won 5-3.

“Barry was obviously an important member of our squad, however this is a fantastic opportunity for him, and the club didn’t want to stand in his way,” said interim Derry boss Mark Connolly. “We want to wish Barry every success at CSKA.”
CSKA sit third in the Bulgarian league after seven games, seven points off leaders Levski Sofia with a game in hand. They face their cross-city rivals in the Bulgarian Super Cup final on Wednesday night.
